While there are no restrictions for the number of hours an EU national can work as a student, it is strongly recommended to work part-time:

  • Up to 16 hours per week
  • Full-time during June, July and August only

Supplementary Grant (Aanvullende beurs)

Monthly allowance from the Dutch government for EU students

The &qout;Supplementary Grant" (Aanvullende beurs) is part of the DUO student finance package. It's a monthly allowance from the Dutch government to help with living costs (rent, food, transport, etc.).

Eligibility for EU/EEA Students (Slovakia, Czech Republic, etc.)

You can get this grant even as an EU student if you:

  • Are an EU/EEA citizen
  • Are enrolled full-time at a Dutch university or university of applied sciences
  • Live in the Netherlands with a Dutch address (registered at municipality – gemeente)
  • Work at least 56 hours per month in a regular job (with Dutch contract and payslips)
  • Have a BSN (Dutch ID number) and Dutch bank account
